A WordPress-based website is a living, breathing entity – you add posts, change content, update plugins and themes, and take orders. However, all it takes is a failed update, a cyberattack, a plugin error or a mistake whilst editing to lose the results of months’ work in a matter of seconds. Regular WordPress backups This is the simplest and most effective backup solution, allowing you to restore your website to a working state at any time.
As part of our WordPress management service, we carry out automatic backups of your website and store them securely in the cloud on servers located within the European Union. This means you don’t have to remember to create backups manually or worry about storage space – we take care of everything.
What is a WordPress website backup?
A backup is an image of your website at a given point in time, stored in a secure location. A full WordPress backup consists of two parts:
- databases – this is where all the content is stored: posts, pages, comments, settings, order data and user data,
- website files – that is, themes, plugins, graphics, photos and WordPress configuration files.
It is only by combining these two elements that the website can be fully restored – exactly as it was at the time the backup was taken. That is precisely why we have ensured that we regularly back up both the database and the website’s entire content.
How do we back up WordPress?
We use tried-and-tested, highly regarded plugins for creating backups: UpdraftPlus and WpVivid. These solutions are used on millions of websites around the world, ensuring reliable backups and quick, hassle-free data recovery when needed.
We select the appropriate plugin on a case-by-case basis to suit your website’s configuration and requirements, and the whole process runs fully automatically – in the background, without affecting your website’s performance and without requiring any action on your part.
Where do we store our backups? The iDrive e2 cloud in Germany

Backups are not stored on the same server as your website – and this is by design. If the server were to fail or be compromised, a backup stored in the same location would be useless. That is why we store all backups in an independent cloud iDrive e2, whose servers are located in Germany.
This solution offers you several key benefits:
- Data security – the backups are stored separately from the production server, so a hosting failure does not mean the loss of backups,
- Location within the European Union – the data remains within the EU (Germany), which makes it easier to comply with the GDPR,
- Reliability and scalability – iDrive e2 is a professional cloud infrastructure that ensures high availability and the durability of stored data.
How often do we make backups?
We adjust the frequency of backups to the WordPress support package you have chosen. The more dynamic and demanding your website is (e.g. an online shop with frequent orders), the more frequently we back up its data. As standard, we follow this procedure:
- Database: 1–2 times a day – we back up the data that changes most frequently (posts, comments, orders) up to twice a day to minimise the risk of losing up-to-date information,
- Full backup (database + files): once a week – We create a complete backup of the entire website, including files, the theme and plugins, on a weekly basis.
- Incremental backups – daily – Incremental WordPress backups only save changes made since the last backup, making the process faster, putting less strain on the server and taking up significantly less space in the cloud.
Thanks to this approach, we always have an up-to-date copy of the most important data and a complete snapshot of the site, which allows us to rebuild the website from scratch.
How long do we keep backups?
We store backups for up to 12 months. Such a long retention period is a real advantage – problems with a website do not always become apparent straight away. Sometimes, the effects of a failed update, a plugin error or a malware infection only become apparent after a while.
With access to copies from many weeks or even months ago, we can restore the page to a point when it was working correctly – rather than being limited solely to the latest version, which may already be corrupted.
Why should you entrust us with your WordPress backups?
- Full automation – You don’t need to remember to make backups; it all happens in the background.
- Tried-and-tested tools – We use the trusted UpdraftPlus and WpVivid plugins.
- A secure, independent cloud – data in iDrive e2 on servers in Germany, separate from the production server.
- Quick recovery – In the event of a failure, we can quickly restore the website from the most recent valid backup.
- Long retention period – access to copies dating back as far as 12 months.
- Peace of mind and time-saving – You focus on your business; we’ll take care of your website’s security.
